Guatemala Central Region holds 80% of the urban population of Guatemala (12 out of 15 million), the largest economic development potential and equity efficiency for provision of urban and social services and environmental sustainability as means of preventing sprawl on national valuable ecosystems.
The region has a metropolitan scale. It is 110 km long (distance between Quetzaltenango and Guatemala City), and 40 km wide (distance between Escuintla and G.C)
